What Is CBD?

CBD (cannabidiol) is the non-psychoactive cousin to THC, the other primary compound in marijuana (cannabis). Currently approved as an anti-seizure medication by the FDA (Epidiolex), CBD is touted for its many potential health benefits, especially in treating pain. Because users don't experience THC's 'high,' CBD is a healthy alternative to cannabis.

Benefits of DIY CBD Soap

Apart from the many health benefits, you'll save a lot of money by making your own DIY CBD soap. CBD contains powerful anti-inflammatory ingredients that nourish and cleanse the skin while helping reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

How CBD Soap Works

CBD soap is transdermal, meaning it's absorbed through the skin and lowers inflammation directly where it's applied. CBD works by the two primary cannabinoid receptors, CB1 and CB2, that interact with our body's endocannabinoid system (ECS). CBD works by creating a physiological response in the ECS that lowers inflammation, the key source of all diseases.

How Much CBD Oil Should I Use?

Eden's herbals full spectrum cbd oil in natureFirst of all, you'll want to consider using full-spectrum CBD oil. Full-spectrum gives you the most optimal 'hit' of CBD because it contains elements of the entire cannabis plant, including terpenes, cannabinoids, and fatty acids.

Knowing how much CBD to use is different for everybody. If you're not familiar with CBD, start with a small batch and use a 1,000 mg tincture.

You can then work your way up to more potent CBDs once you see how your body reacts. If you're already on a regular CBD regimen, use your daily serving for each calculated bar of soap you make.

1 Tablespoon of CBD oil

1 Tablespoon of Lavender Oil

1 Cup of Water

' of Olive Oil

' Cup of Lye

' cup of Coconut Oil

' cup of Avocado Oil

  1. Mix lye and water in a bowl. Pour lye slowly to avoid accidents (lye is very caustic). Stir for 5 minutes until it heats up to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Set aside.
  2. Next, add coconut oil, olive oil, and avocado oil in a separate bowl and microwave for one minute. Keep checking on the mixture until it reaches 95-105 degrees Fahrenheit.
  3. When both bowls' contents reach 95 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit, pour them into one bowl together. Blend the solution for three minutes.
  4. Add CBD oil and lavender oil and stir for another minute.
  5. Pour into soap molds.
  6. Cover soap molds with plastic wrap for 24 hours.
  7. Remove soap from molds and let them cure for four to six weeks in a cool, well-ventilated area. Turn them frequently to let the bars absorb the oil evenly.

Will Heat Affect The CBD?

Soap-making involves a chemical reaction known as saponification, which happens under heat when lye and oils break down. The heat breaks down the fatty acids and evaporates water molecules creating a bar of soap.

CBD and the essential oils remain intact because the soap is only heated up to around 105 degrees. CBD oil doesn't lose its potency until it's heated up to 300 degrees Fahrenheit.

Hemp seed oil has an ideal of 3:1 of omega-three to omega-six fatty acids, essential for optimal health. Use all-natural ingredients as a base for this soap. Substitute a high-quality hemp seed oil or use it in addition to a premium CBD oil during the saponification process.

Lye-free CBD Soap Recipe

You'll need a microwave, knife, spatula, and soap molds to begin this project. You'll also need one pound of aloe, goat's milk, or honey, as well as CBD oil. First, chop the soap base up into one-inch cubes and heat in the microwave for 10-second spurts to make the soap.

Stir the solution and repeat until it's completely melted. Next, stir in CBD oil and any herbs or oils you'd like to incorporate. Mix well and pour into your soap molds. Let the mixture harden and cure before use.
